If one door closes and another one opens,
your house is probably haunted.
As a Part-time PI and fulltime grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister's hair before she wakes up? But, "How do I trap not one malevolent god, but three?" was never among them. Until now. And since those gods are on earth to kill her daughter, she has little choice but to track them down, trap them, and cast them from this dimension.
There's just one problem. One of the three stole her heart a very long time ago. Can the Razer, a god of absolute death and destruction, change his omniscient spots, or will his allegiances lie with his brothers?
Those are just a few of the questions Charley must answer, and quick. Add to that a homeless girl running for her life, an innocent man who's been charged with murdering the daughter of a degenerate gambler, and a pendant made from god glass that has the entire supernatural world in an uproar, and Charley has her hands full. If she can manage to take care of the whole world-destroying-gods thing, we're saved. If not, well…

Charley Davidson. You know her – part-time PI, grim reaper, wife of the sexy son of Satan, and all around magnet to everything remotely dangerous…she's back. Remember how she dematerialized to NY State when she learned her celestial name and forgot who she was? Well, she's finally found her lost groove, but as you know, nothing in her world is ever smooth.
Charley not only finds herself trying to save an innocent man, help a homeless girl who believes she's cursed, but also needs to downplay her mad skills, which have recently been outed on YouTube. In the process of trying to save the world, she needs to figure out what's up with Reyes. Apparently, he found his inner house flipper and revamped their entire building. While she loves what he's done with the place, she wishes she could find a way to bridge the gap that has formed between them. Maybe absence doesn't make the heart grow fonder?
Oh yeah and then there's this little thing called the "god glass," which was created to trap the gods of Uzan. Which, given Charley's skills and her ever burgeoning bag of tricks, should be a cake-walk. However, her connection to the gods of Uzan is closer than she thought and casting them from this dimension may prove to be harder than she realizes.
The story in this installment was so intensely woven, I found myself vacillating between not wanting to read the next sentence and not being able to wait to see what happens next. Darynda Jones left me fraught with anticipation and then knocked me out completely when she unleashed her genius level story-telling on me. I just want to sit down with her and pick that fabulous brain of hers to find out how she created the remarkable world of Charley Davidson. My emotions were shuffled from elation to sadness, to being absolutely shocked and then completely awed. To say that this is one of the best series in the literary world today isn't nearly enough praise. This book is not good. This book is AWESOME! And even though I don't like roller-coasters in real life, I will gladly wait for the next installment because I know it's going to be a wild, hold-on-to-your-seats ride!
